Valuing Introverts

My sister has been beating this drum for years: we live in a society that values extroversion over introversion and it's to our detriment. She's a self-described introvert who often feels like a black sheep in an extroverted society. It took me a while to understand what she was talking about, but now I see her point. So does author, and former corporate lawyer, Susan Cain.

If you are an educator, parent or a reserved person who has always been made to feel inferior for your "shyness," you should watch this. In fact, everyone might find Cain's TED conference talk enlightening. She hacks away at our misconceptions about introversion and extroversion and explains how we aren't maximizing the potential of many introverts. As Cain says, "solitude matters," and often results in profound creativity and discovery.
