Why We’re Giving Girls The Wrong Compliments

For many of us, when we're interacting with a little girl, the first thing we tell her is how pretty her dress is, or how gorgeous her hair is. And it's understandable--little girls are adorable. But so are little boys, and we don't behave the same way with them. Even if our intention to boost a girl's self-esteem, teaching her at such a young age that having a pleasing appearance wins the approval of others can be detrimental. What can parents do about it?
